COMBATING CORROSION EFFECTIVELY

Because of their exceptional performance in the demanding Neutral Salt Spray Test (NSST, ISO-9227), our steel washers promise the market’s highest salt spray resistance.

WASHERS WITH HIGH CORROSION RESISTANCE

Across industries, there is a growing corrosion problem. Accelerating factors such as humidity, heat, and air pollution put higher requirements on equipment materials.

The Nord-Lock® steel washers with zinc flake coating withstand a minimum of 1000 hours in the salt spray test. We do this as regular quality testing to ensure high-quality standards. But our washers easily endure longer hours than the minimum.

Similarly, Nord-Lock Wheel Nuts and Nord-Lock Combi Nuts withstand 600 hours in the salt spray test, ensuring high corrosion resistance and durability under challenging conditions.

APPLICATIONS AND PERFORMANCE

Here’s a detailed view of what to expect of our washers’ corrosion resistance in the real world and
the operating environments they’re able to withstand.

Nord-Lock steel washer corrosion resistance Environment category Corrosion risk Examples of environment
25 years* C4 High Industrial areas and coastal areas with moderate salinity
15 years* C5 Very high Industrial areas with high humidity and aggressive atmosphere and coastal areas with high salinity

*According to ISO 12944-6:2018, 1,000 hours in a salt spray chamber correspond to approximately 25 years in C4 environment or approximately 15 years in C5 environment.

"If you look at the results of the salt spray tests that we do every week, the washers on average do endure over twice as long in the salt spray chamber before any signs of corrosion occur"

THIS IS THE NEUTRAL SPRAY TEST

Designed to test materials and coatings resistance against corrosion, the Neutral Spray Test* is one of the most established corrosion testing methods. During the test, the material gets exposed to high concentrations of salt in a chamber with a controlled atmosphere and level of corrosivity. The time it takes for corrosion to appear in the material determines its level of resistance to corrosion.
