Aiming for smoother production with Superbolt®

The American manufacturing plant produces match grade brass ammunition casings. To ensure their high-end equipment is fully operational in producing their brass rifle casings of the highest quality, they needed a tightening solution that made for easier installation in tight spaces.

A need for simpler installation

The customer had several machines with hex nut fasteners located in tight spaces, typically within the machinery's interior, a set-up which made it difficult to install and remove the fasteners. Due to the high torque rating (over 3,000 ft. lbs.), the customer’s operators were forced to work longer trying to loosen the nuts.

The combination of working in tight spaces and dealing with high torque ratings not only caused significant stress but also complicated the assembly process, increasing the risk of errors. Any mistakes could potentially impact the performance of the plant’s high-end equipment used for producing brass rifle casings.

Introducing MJT nut-style tensioners

To alleviate the additional time and stress placed on the operators, the Superbolt team introduced a simple mechanical tensioning solution: Superbolt nut-style multi-jackbolt tensioners (MJTs). Specifically, the MJT series Superbolt products were recommended to ensure a proper fit in diameter, thread pitch, and profile.

More to come

By utilizing Superbolt MJTs, the process of tightening and breaking loose the Superbolt nuts has been simplified and made more efficient. Each MJT bolt took less than 10 minutes to install, with only a torque wrench required. The customer no longer faces the hassle of spending many hours with restricted space to remove their fasteners. The customer is so satisfied, they have plans to purchase additional mechanical tensioners for several other fastener locations.
